Christmas Fun with Kids

So I’m off for 11 days with my family! I decided to start it off right choosing to have some fun with the kids and save the lazy, relaxing for a little later in the break.

Last night, we played Memory and the boys and I made some Christmas presents for Nanny and Pappy, Aunt CeCe, and our tree. We made spiced Christmas ornaments from Nanny’s recipe.

They had a great time playing with the goo, except when Little Monkey decided to sample the concoction. What a face! We used Christmas cookie cutters as the forms and the boys simple patted down the dough. To make ornaments this size, we doubled the recipe. It was pretty full proof. Here’s the result:

Now we need to add the ribbon and wrap them up. Maybe this afternoon!

This morning, I began the day with another great Christmas tradition–popcorn garland. It was Nanny’s idea too and turned out to be a great one. They certainly liked the concept. Little Man was able to do most of it by himself. He even figured out how to rethread the needle when he pulled it out. Some great hand-eye-coordination! I was proud! Little Monkey was simply interested in eating the popcorn and maybe put 5 pieces on the strand he and I were doing together. Here are our two strands:

The real success was the set-up. I put an old sheet on the floor in front of the TV. We were able to keep most of the mess on it, so the clean up was relatively easy. And for entertainment, we watched The Polar Express while working away. We all love the film, so it was a great way to spend the morning.

Here’s a beautiful song from the film:

What are you doing with your family to have fun this Christmas?

Please share your ideas,

because 11 days with a 5 and 2 year old can be daunting!
