Saying Good-bye

There’s no easy way to do it.

A quick word is too short.

A verbose conversation is too painful.

But there are things that should be said.

Things that must be said.

Things that should be left unsaid.

What do you say?

How do you say it?

Do you fight the tears?

Do you let them flow?

Do you offer advice?

Do you reminisce on the good times?

Apologize for the bad?

Do you look to the future?

It’s too much to process.

It’s too much to handle.

Why must we say good-bye at all?

If we carry a memory with us,

is it ever good-bye?

Or simply an acknowledgement that life changes?

I wish you all the best.

I promise to hold on to the memories that make me smile.

Be strong, be you.

Find success.

You take with you my love and gratitude for our shared times.

You leave behind a life enriched by your presence.

You will never be forgotten.

Good-bye my friend.
